As Seen On Pennswoods
Announcement: On April 14 2009 Sharon Township in Potter county PA supervisors will vote in an ordinance. This will become law if we do not stop them.
The ordinance will require a permit for any gathering of over 99 people on your land and the permit, will be almost impossible to get. If you want to have a party, snowmobile race horse show you will be required to get a permit in advance $50 and up depending on the # of people you expect.
You have to provide security, fencing, parking plan and a huge list things.
DON'T let them take away any more of your rights. Be there to defend your property rights. 6PM Sharon Township building April 14th 2009.
This is important to all land owners in Sharon Township. A copy of this proposed ordinance can be read at the Shinglehouse library. Shinglehouse, Pa

imagine that here we go again with america the land of what used to be free.just another ridiculus attempt for someone to capitolize on
Is Obama in charge of this meeting to???
Dang what is this world coming to??
Good Luck to the people of that township.. I will keep my fingers crossed for you. let us know how you make out.
This is not hard to figure who is pushing for this. As soon as horseshow was listed. Phil Williams had mentioned he might start fun horse shows for kids and adults. His not so nice neighbors on RT. 44 tried to stop him last time. The shows were held once or twice a month on a Sat. night. The homes are a long stretch from the area. What this is again is neighbors trying to control land of others. Give me a break, someone is trying to provide a good clean outing for kids and their family, doesn't matter if "THE NEIGHBORS HAVE THEIR SAY". If this is passed it will be just the beginning of many more laws to let you know you really don't own your own land, just pay taxes and up-keep on it.
I believe the place that has the horse shows or rodeos would be grandfathered against this. Just my take as an elected official.
Talk about communism!! Americans rights are drowning just like the economy!!
Would this include weddings? This is just not right what else will they try and take away from us!
So who was the moronic idiot who came up with a useless law like this in the first place? So what happens if you expect 98 people to show up and 102 show? Do you get fined for that? Does this apply daily for restaurants and bars? Are they going to have to get a daily permit to stay open? What a bunch of bullshit!!!!!
Vote them all OUT for even thinking of such a law!!!!
Pennsylvania Association of Township Supervisors Website...
Section 503. Removal for Failure to Perform Duties.-If any township officer fails to perform the duties of the office, the court of common pleas upon complaint in writing by five percent of the electors of the township may issue a rule upon the officer to show cause why the office should not be declared vacant. The officer shall respond to the rule within thirty days from its date of issue. Upon hearing, the court may declare the office vacant and require the vacancy to be filled under section 407.
This board of Supervisors are only looking to further line their pockets at the expense or the taxpayers. How can you draw unemployment in Florida all winter while the residents of Sharon Township are left to maintain their roads them self?
I really hope that those of you who live in this township crush this. If it passes there they'll be liable to try and pass it in other Potter County townships as well. I already own my land and pay taxes on it if I want to have a huge cookout I should not have to get permission from the government the fact that this is even being considered is scary. When we have a fam reunion there is about 100 people there. May God help you all.
will someone please tell everyone where the township building is located . i , for one plan to attend
jim s sharon township
"So what happens if you expect 98 people to show up and 102 show"
Will some scumbag supervisor or little hitler wanna be, be parked in the weeds with binoculars. counting cars and how many people are in them?
"I believe the place that has the horse shows or rodeos would be grandfathered against this. Just my take as an elected official"
Granfathered or not, YOU are part of the problem if this is your response to this liberty take away.
Stand up and vote no. No more Regulations of Envy!
Who's name is on this attempt?
This must Stop....
Sue them collectively and individually.
TITLE 18 > PART I > CHAPTER 13CHAPTER 13—CIVIL RIGHTS
From the State of Florida's website on unemployment fraud...
WHAT ARE THE PENALTIES FOR FRAUD?
Unemployment Compensation Fraud is a 3rd degree felony and can result in jail time for the claimant. When a fraud determination is issued, in addition to being required to repay the overpayment, the claimant will be disqualified from receiving future benefits (a disqualification can be imposed on a week by week basis up to a one year period), and have the case referred to the State Attorney for prosecution. State Attorneys may charge the claimant with grand theft or a misdemeanor.
Prosecution and conviction of unemployment compensation fraud may result in the claimant being required to serve jail time, make restitution, be placed on probation or some type of pretrial intervention, and serve community hours.
DO YOU KNOW SOMEONE WHO MAY BE COMMITTING UNEMPLOYMENT COMPENSATION FRAUD?
If so, provide information about the receipt of unemployment by individuals who may not be eligible OR CALL 1-800-342-9909

" How can you draw unemployment in Florida all winter while the residents of Sharon Township are left to maintain their roads them self?"
He probably takes after the road crew who gets paid for full time work but puts in part time.
Yeah, people are speakig up, now is the time to take action. So it passes, fine me....So sick of townships, boros, counties, state and federal trying to get a piece of the working people. This is not the only issue that needs a tea party, we all need to put a stop to the nonsense. Good luck Sharon Township. By the way is it true a guy gets unemployment while wintering in Fl? That seems too far out in left field to be true.
Just my take as an elected official, Please explain "why you believe it would be grandfathered"?
Getting hard to believe what an elected official says, much less because he blieves. Good luck Sharon Township.
According to my 2008 Township Official convention handbook, the Sharon Township Supervisors are:
John Stilson, Shawn Metcalf and Bernard Maille. The secretary is Francis Stilson. Don't know these individuals personally but I hope they rethink this Ordinance before they try to adopt it.

I guess this shows us that we should make a vigilant attempt to attend township meetings to see what our elected officials are planning. Keating Township had their taxes double and hardly anyone knew about it until they received their tax bills.
This law will never pass! That's ridiculous! ;( But on the other hand you can't put a fence up,resurface your drive,do your roof, cut down a tree ,change a window etc. w/o a permit down here in South Florida!! So I guess this doesn't surprise me!! Maybe the land owners could just sell the govt. thier land and lease it back and let the govt. pay the taxes and upkeep! It would probably be cheaper in the long run! All the landowners in Sharon Township could get together this summer and schedule big parties, reunions and weddings all summer with 99 people !! Brad
Gatherings are NOT okay, family reunions,, etc. etc., must pay a permit fee if over 99 people? Perhaps they should owrk more on now allowing wind turbines which have the potential to fall over and crush those people. It has happened in other counties, states. Perhaps their time could be better utilized helping each other.
potter county fair is located in this twp.
Don't forget ontop of the permitt cost you must have insurance for the day....
I won't be getting a permit! And I'd like to see them stop me. Bring it
Can you imagine if it passes Potter County? Would be one heck of a bill for the Gods' (opps, can't say that) Country Marathon?
I wonder what brought this proposed ordinance about? What is the underlying factor(s) that haven't been stated? Is this a plan to raise revenue, who is going to enforce it if it should pass (State Police do not enforce local ordinances) are they planning on hiring an enforcement officer?
Lots of questions but no real answered put foreward by the supervisors. This would make more sense if the permits were needed for commerical events, makes no sense for people having private gatherings on private property were a entry fee is not charged, but what do I know
What is the dumb ass logic of the number "99 people" is it truly any better than 107 or 89.
Did it just sound good? not too big, but big enough?
It this passes, look for it to be reduced in the future, 90, then 75, then 50 it never ends does it.
For starters, how about just making sure the twp employees put in a fair days work.
Guess we better get to the library in Shinglehouse and read what it is all about. Got a feeling it can't be good.
"wonder what brought this proposed ordinance about"
There are likely only a handful of gatherings of this size in this Twp.
Which makes me think this is a person agenda of someone against someone.
"This would make more sense if the permits were needed for commercial events"
This does not make sense for "commercial events" either.
Any commercial event is conducted on the owners property. If the event owner wants to stupidly take on the risk of an accident, he should be able to, he should be
made to by government force.
Township has no additional exposure, than it does any other day. Stay out of peoples way.
You are still free to be as dumb as you want in this country.
If more than 99 people show up at the township meeting, won't they have to have a permit?
If more than 99 people show up to picket at the supervisors house, would they have to get a permit?
It's pretty simple.
In a nutshell, we the govt. can do whatever the hell we want.
I think this is the way some look at it.
"If more than 99 people show up to picket at the supervisors house, would they have to get a permit?"
NO, just go in groups of 98 or less.
More people should take more interest in their local goverement. I know of all of the elected officials and have not know any one of them to do any harn to anyone. Get to this meeting and see what it is really about before everyone passes judgement. The only commercial event I know of it the Potter County Fair and the road in front of it is Sharon Twp. Rd. Maybe it does have to do with this. It will definetly be an interesting meeting.
CHANGE -- what you get from handing over a dollar.
Odd. I haven't seen a single person on here wanting this to pass.
L
Imagine.....just in time for graduation parties!! Family vs friends who to invite who not to invite...it really is sad no matter how you look at it...
I think it is a damn good idea. But still, anything existing would have to be grandfathered.
Well since this ordinance is already in effect and only being changed the good folks of Sharon Township had better become informed citizens before spouting off at the mouth via the internet. As all of the ordinance isn't written here a citizen can go to the Shinglehouse library and read its contents of the amended ordinance and find out what it truly is in regards to.
So if you think this has something to do with the road and Potter County Fair, then why don't they handle the situation instead of creating such an idiotic law? $$$ Possibly something personal.
I think its a good idea as well, why should residents who have lived in their home for years be disrupted by some new neighbor who has a lack of consideration for their neighbors. Curfews have to be set in order for those people to live, and enjoy their homes as well. Aren't they taxpayers as well?? Just because one idividual owns a huge amount of land does not allow him to run a public gathering until the wee hours of the morning keeping the neighboring residents awake all night long. From my understanding this will do all residents a favor. Any resident who ends up with some type of event in their local residential area, running till the wee hours of the morning will be complaining, and very unhappy. This Ordinance is being amended to set those curfew times, and watch out for the public safety, and concern of Sharon TWP. resident. Before getting in an uproar, and going to their meeting uneducated go to the library and read it for yourself. From my understanding this does not effect graduations, weddings, or family reunions.
Township supervisors have more power than God in this state. They usually run unopposed for the position. The vote will happen in a wink of an eye and there will be little you can do about it. Wind ordinances are a prime example. You will find any ordinance passed will benifit one or more of the supervisors proposing it. Sad but true.
"I think it is a damn good idea"
Why is this a good idea?
"As all of the ordinance isn't written here a citizen can go to the Shinglehouse library"
Can you enlighten us then please?
or
In the essence of hearing all sides, will the supervisors email/fax a copy to Solomens. I would ask, Mr Jones, if it is at all possible, if he could post it for all to see.
Or anyone else for that matter can send it. I am out of town for a while, otherwise I would.
Curfews, Public Safety???.
There is already a remedy at law for a neighbor who makes excessive noise.
Call the Police.
Police come.
Police Investigate
Police Fine if necessary.
Noisy Neighbor learns lesson.
If lesson is learned. Repeat. Your neighbor will pick up on it sooner rather than later when it comes to their pocketbook.
Curfews smell of a police state.
This is sounding more and more like it is targeting one operation for the benefit of a few adjacent neighbors.
Do the Supervisors live nearby the targeted property?
Maybe the targeted property owner should have checked on any existing ordinances before starting up such a type of thing.
But as usual, most arrogent people think they can do as they please and figure nothing will happen to me or let them go ahead and try to do something. Just like this person.......

This is probable part of th "change" Obama was talking about...change all right, and charge ya too!
By the time our county, state and federal governments are done we will be charged to live in the homes we bought and paid for, oh that's right we all ready are, property taxes!
Can't get our paid politicians to make big businesses be accountable but sure as hell can make us little people toe the line!
We are regulated and taxed to death, when will it ever end????
This is the same township that shut down the roads to ATV and snowmobiles to cripple the local snowmobile club. Yeah so much for the big tourism rush to NW Potter County. Brilliant!!
To Poster 8:59...Bingo on this being a few of the neighbors bordering where Horse Shows were held. Scared they are starting up again and you want to try to stop them again. I knew this was what started it. Again, you had every chance to get together and buy the land, no, you just want to run it not own it. Get a life and quit your bitching. The horse barn and arena set far beyond your boundary. Hope this guy has oil rights or puts up 10 windmills for ya. He could make much more money than having "fun rodeos for families".
First Amendment
Right to peaceably Assemble
What is sort of pathetic about this whole thing is that its obviously not the township official pushing for this ordinance but a group of taxpayers who would like to see this happen. Yet, the wrath of the people is aimed towrd the same officials that you voted into office. Township supervisor is a thankless position. Few want the job but many complain when things don't go their way.
Huh, nope, one of the officials land borders the land that holds the rodeos and he is one of the biggest complainers of the neighbors.
"one of the officials land borders the land that holds the rodeos and he is one of the biggest complainers of the neighbors."
I think we have broken the code
I guess if this ordinance has been in place for quite some time especially if before "the rodeo" came to town then the WOOO HOOO Rodeo won't be grandfathered and will be subject to the the permit fee and rules of such ordinance.
If you don't like the way it is then maybe you should run for supervisor and make some CHANGE. YES YOU CAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just quit your complaining and go to the meeting and see what is going on before you get your panties in a bind.
post 12:46 and 12:54
Tis' the "sweet talking wife" of a supervisor speaking up? Ya know the one that runs her mouth.
these supervisors did revoke the ordinance on atvs and snowmobiles because the local club did not keep up thier part of the deal,
post 3:36:00 PM EDT
Um no..
Someone about 10 miles away actually.
you're just another example of how you piss & moaners jump the gun and try to lay blame when you don't know anything.
Sounds like a couple of nerves hit!
And for the person that said, wooo hooo rodeo. Definitely proves who started this whole thing. I sure hope it doesn't go through and they have bull ridn', bronc bustn', with 500 people cheern' them on until the cows come home. Better yet bring back the old time dirt track racing for cars...he he he
Ordinance #115(A) as proposed by the Sharon Township Supervisors.
You have to pay for a permitt $50+up to $5000 You will have to have a marshall on site for each 100 people, one abulance and two emergency persons for 100 people,a four foot high fence containing the people, the permitt is only good for 48 hours,The township has a right to deny your permitt up to 5 days prior to the event, you will be required to put down $500 cash or bond for up to $100,000 depending on # of people. You must provide traffic controll officer 1 for each 50 cars and many other requirments to numerous to mention. This is a new ordinance being mask as an amendment.
It's designed to stop those darn hippies from staging another Woodstock here in Sharon Township.
"Ordinance #115(A) as"
Wouldn't it just be easier to call the police if they are truly bothering you.?
This is un-american, and likely vindicitive on the proposer
The point is they do not want the horse shows and rodeos. Miserable people trying to make others miserable.
IT is only meant for people that are going to be making a profit from their party or cahrging money for entrance. IT is not intended for the everyday picnic, family reunion or wahtever gt together it is you are having. The entier ordinance was not posted, therefore not all of the information is not provided in the initial posting. It reallydoesn't affect citizens of Sharon Township but rather protects them.
If you say so, not. It is to help the miserables run their neighbors. So don't even think you can smooch this one by.
So my friend has land in Sharon Township and we plan to have a roundup for the Order of the Dildine with just us girls welcome. This could have 30 people or 200 depending on whether Olean and Coudersport and Shinglehouse join in on the OOTD activities. Does Sharie have to apply for a permit?
Is the Order of the Dildine a non-profit organization...from what I know, The OOTD is not exclusive to women but is a bi-sexual group. Where do they have their monthly meetings?
Well, if more than 99 show up....make sure they don't stand still. Will be harder for the snitch hiding in the bushes to count. First they must find one of their leaders that can count that far.
Well that's quite an "amendment". I wonder how long it took one of the supervisors "wife" to dream that one up. That is an "amendment" that no one will be able to meet and then it is still at the descrection of the supervisors to deny it up to 5 days prior to the event. What's really more disturbing is that the other supervisors are willing to go along with it. It just so happens that another supervisor lives just across the road from the land that they are targeting as well as the adjacent property owner. We all know that this is targeted at Phil Williams and meant to stop horse shows. As far as Phil making money off of these horse shows, I know for a fact he made nothing. All the gate and entries were put back to get prize money for the kids. All Phil got for his hard work was the satifaction that the kids and adults enjoyed themselves at his shows.
Thank you poster 8:03. Like an earlier poster stated when they read horse shows, they knew exactly where it was started. Unfortunately the supervisors wife can not keep from running her mouth and this story leaked out before they wanted it to. She just had to brag there would be no more horse shows. Sad, but consider who it is.
What is going on in Sharon Township should be a wake-up call to other townships. Just the beginning of a few taking matters into their own hand. How was it stated? Oh, yeah, to protect us. Depends on who is doing the protecting. Wake up America!
People, think about this for a second. After reading ALL the comments you are battling two differnt things. The ordiance looks to be a safeguard for the citizens. Would you want 80-100 strangers around your property with YOUR children? NO. If you had 80-100 relatives at your place it is different for the neighbors Hopefully you could vouch for your families conduct. This rodeo is okay when it is not in your backyard. Take a step back and think about it.
Shawn Metcalf is a decent man who works very hard. He would not pass something to benefit him. This is NOT his wife but a member of the community who knows Shawn.
