Collection Of Unwanted Pharmaceuticals Saturday
Potter County has signed on to the Federal Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) collection of unwanted, expired, and unused drugs. It will be held on Saturday, Oct. 29, from 10 am to 2 pm. Local collection sites include the state police barracks at Denton Hill and the Coudersport Borough Office. Following the supervised collection, the substances will be disposed of in a safe manner.
A growing number of pharmaceuticals and personal care products are ending up in the wrong hands, or in waterways across the country. Abuse and illegal marketing of painkillers, antidepressants and other prescription medications is the fastest growing drug problem in Pennsylvania, according to officials.
Some people have responded by emptying their medicine cabinets and flushing pills down the toilet or otherwise releasing them into the environment. There is a growing concern about how these drugs and other substances may be affecting people in their drinking water and impacting the environment.
During a similar collection in April, there were 56 pounds of pharmaceuticals collected in Potter County.

they should buy them back from people.. We had to buy them. people probably would be more receptive in bringing them in. It might make me want to take my old pills in.
Absolutely, Im not going to take drugs down there just for the sake of it. Buy them back and I would be all for it.
seriously? "buy them back?" most of those pills have been paid for with tax payers money as it is! Maybe if people on medical assistance had some co-pays like working people have (like 20 or 30 dollar co-pays) there wouldn't be so many unused pills out there!!!! "buy them back?" give me a friggin' break!
Chances are better than average that you two posters didn't pay for these drugs in the first place anyhow, we the taxpayers did. You act like that participating in this collection that the pharmaceutical companies get the drugs back and they are re-sold. They are disposed of properly in a method that is safe to the environment.
Get over yourselves already.
Ha!
Fox News has sure done it's brainwashing well.
Everyone is now convinced that everyone else is on the government dole.
Yes, I'm sure the odds are just astronomical that the first two posters own health insurance and paid for their medicine themselves *rolls eyes*
Say it with me now. Who's on the government dole?: "Minorities and everyone except me!"
That's a good little parrot. Now go vote Republican no matter what. Their goals are in no way counter to your own interests.
Democrats want everyone on the government dole not republicans! There has never been so many people demanding handouts or should i say following in obamas (make someone else pay for it)footsteps!
DEMS ans REPS are useless. Time for some new Parties.
I most certainly did pay for my prescriptions.
an I would turn them in if I got my money back.. You talk like a man with a paper @ss hole always flapping thinking you know it all...
Go ahead all you Potter, McKean, Tioga pill poppers and flush your meds down the john. One day some innocent mother may be asked to take a drug test and fail because she drank water that was tainted with drugs that came from northern PA.
this is a program to help keep unused drugs out of kids hands. to make your home or medicine cabinet less of a target for those with drug problems.
it's to make the community safer, if you need paid for that...well...then...
explains a lot about where we have found ourselves.
9:17 makes me wanna laugh and cry at the same time.
